Why anime figures?

I have recently become interested in the world of anime figures. Before, I couldn't fathom why people would spend massive amounts of money on figures that would just *stand there* looking pretty and decorative. Well, decorative and otaku-ish. Or decorative, otaku-ish and perverted, depending on the figure.

However, a few months ago—oh, alright, half a year ago, a particular figure came to my notice. Now, I haven´t the foggiest idea what series this figure belonged to, but what bought it to my attention was that it was so insanely detailed. It was then that I thought: “Hmmm, anime figures might have a bit more to them than I initially thought…”. I mean, that´s some mad modeling/sculpting skills right there.

I was browsing ebay one day and I found some figurines I liked, and for a very good price! So I decided to buy them. I bought four figurines, since the two figurines that caught my eye came in sets of two. The figures I bought were from the series Toradora! and Ore no imouto ga konna ni kawaii wake ga nai, two of my favorite animes.

I got Taiga and Ami from Toradora (they came in a set, i really bought it just for Taiga though) and Kirino and Ruri from Oreimo

They are nowhere near as detailed as the ones I saw that made me interested in figures in the first place, but the fact that they are some of my favorite characters from some of my top favorite animes just makes it worth it to me.
